Northern California Cities Walk the Walk with Wellness

SAN DIEGO, CA/ December 20, 2010—While some people dream of success, others wake up and work hard for it. In that spirit, NCCSIF—a consortium of Northern California Cities with wellness provider ACI Specialty Benefits, recently completed its highly successful month-long Walking Challenge. Employees logged hundreds of hours of walking, and the winner completed nearly 5,000 minutes of exercise in the challenge.

City of Rocklin Senior Human Resources Analyst, Patty Tash explains, “The NCCSIF Walking Challenge gave our employees a great ‘excuse’ to either start a walking program or really enhance their current one. The competition really motivated employees to go all out. Not only are we looking forward to the next NCCSIF sponsored challenge, but I’ve been getting input from employees regarding fitness competitions we can conduct amongst ourselves. The challenge has really gotten our employees thinking about physical fitness in a whole new way.”

The NCCSIF Walking Challenge took place from October 1st to 29th and included 15 Northern California cities: Auburn, Dixon, Gridley, Ione, Marysville, Nevada City, Placerville, Red Bluff, Rio Vista, Rocklin, Willows, Town of Paradise, Yuba City, and Galt. Literally hundreds of employees represented dozens of departments. ACI Specialty Benefits is the Wellness provider for all NCCSIF cities and many local concerns such as Teleplan, Diocese of Stockton, Jackson Rancheria, and City of Roseville. Prizes were awarded with the City of Rocklin recording an average of 1,200 minutes per employee and Claudia Contos of Rocklin leading all individuals with 4,873 minutes.

“The walking challenge gave Rocklin the opportunity to take on something as a team so I stepped up my routine with things that I enjoy doing,” proclaims winner Claudia Contos. “It was a great time to do this too with the beautiful weather!  I’m looking forward to the next one!”

ACI Specialty Benefits Says Students = Profit at World EAP Conference

September 23, 2010 (San Diego, CA)—ACI Specialty Benefits today announced that Tori Barr, Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations will discuss the emerging market of student assistance in a presentation titled, “Student Assistance: An Opportunity for Employee Assistance Providers” at EAPA’s 2010 World EAP Conference on October 7 in Tampa, FL.
“Profits in career colleges have never been higher,” says ACI Specialty Benefits SVP Barr. “When the economy shifts, new opportunities appear. The success of ACI’s SOAR: Student Outreach, Assistance, Resources with industry leaders demonstrates that students can be big business.” Statistics showing that over 50% of college freshmen never graduate supports ACI’s approach to helping students solve personal problems that interfere with class attendance.
Before launching SOAR, ACI’s comprehensive student assistance program, to 79 campuses across the U.S., ACI conducted a pilot program for select campuses and online students.  Follow-up surveys revealed 11% utilization in just the first three-months—more than double national averages for EAP utilization—and the school experienced measurable ROI in tuition and related services.
EAP providers team with existing student services to provide help with everyday coping. Child care, emotional challenges, homelessness, and economic challenges top the list of student concerns. “Today’s student is likely carrying a diaper bag along with the books, looking for an education that is quick, practical and leads to immediate job placement,” says Dr. Ann Clark, CEO of ACI. “For-Profit schools fill a unique and timely need in current educational trends.”
